Project Coordination Unit (PCU)
Project Coordination Unit (PCU) was founded in 2001 by the Resolution of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina as an independent body that operates with full authorisation and responsibilities under the auspices of Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry.
PCU is in charge of coordinating the implementation of the projects in the Federation of BiH financed out of IFAD’s credit and grant funds, in accordance with the Loan Agreements signed between IFAD and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Project Agreements signed between IFAD and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina respectively.
As the IFAD mandate is assistance to the poverty alleviation in the world, IFAD’s projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina accordingly are primarily intended for the poor in rural communities in order to encourage them and help them develop into commercial producers of commodities for the market thus considerably increasing their income and overcoming the poverty.
In the period since its foundation to date, PCU has coordinated the implementation of multiple IFAD’s projects. Currently its seventh project titled Rural Competitiveness Development Programme is under the implementation, and another one, so-called IFAD 8, that is, Rural Enterprise and Agricultural Development Project, is in the stage of preparation.
PCU continues with its mission of helping the poor in the Federation of BiH enable themselves sufficiently to make their living out of their own work. A special aspect of the IFAD’s interventions is support to women and the youth in rural communities in their employment and self-employment.
Continuous follow up of the IFAD’s operations in BiH is a set of positive experiences acquired during the implementation of its previous projects.
